Follow these steps to reset your password on any Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Mac.
Your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Apple Watch with watchOS 8.2 or later

Go to Settings.
Tap [your name] > Password and Security > Change Password.

You'll be prompted for the passcode to your device if you are signed in to iCloud with a passcode enabled.
Follow the instructions to change your password.

Mac OS Catalina or later

Select Apple menu > System preferences, then click Apple ID.
Click Password and Security. When asked for your Apple ID password, click the "Forgot Apple ID/password" button and follow the instructions. You can skip to the last step.

Enter the password to unlock your Mac by clicking Change Password.

Use a trusted number, email address, recovery key or account recovery contact.

You might be able reset your password with a trusted number or email in some cases.
You can reset your password on your iPhone or iPad using a recovery key if you have one. Find out more about using a Recovery Key.
Your account recovery contact may be able to reset your password if you have already created one. Find out more about how to use an account recovery contact.


Ask a friend or family member for help in opening the App Store to download the Apple Support app for their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Are you unable to download the Apple Support App?

Next, open the Apple Support App and follow these steps.

Tap Passwords & Security.
Tap Reset Apple ID password.
Tap "Get Started", then tap "Another Apple ID".
Enter the Apple ID number that you want to reset your password.
Follow the steps until confirmation is received that your Apple ID password has been changed.
