Lightning cables can be damaged and cause problems with iPhones, particularly when they are used to charge and transfer data between iPhones.

Because lightning cables are not always easy to identify, it can be hard to determine if they have broken. Due to the nature of the cable, sometimes an iPhone will charge, but not sync data properly. When troubleshooting an iPhone, be sure to inspect the cables closely.
